Haryana promotes 2 IPS officers to DGP rank

In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Haryana government has elevated two senior Indian Police Service officers to the prestigious rank of Director General of Police. The promotions, announced on Tuesday, November 19, 2025, recognize the exemplary service of ADGP Alok Mittal and ADGP Arshinder Singh Chawla.

Distinguished Careers of the New DGPs

Alok Mittal, a 1993-batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre, currently heads the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. His appointment to this position came in December 2024 when he succeeded Amitabh Singh Dhillon. Prior to this crucial role, Mittal served as the head of Haryana's intelligence agency, CID, for an impressive four years and seven months.

Mittal's policing expertise spans multiple domains including crime investigation and road safety. His career includes a substantial five-year tenure on central deputation with the National Investigation Agency. The officer has held several key positions throughout his service, including Superintendent of Police in CBI's Economic Offences Wing and Cyber Crime Cell, Commissioner of Police at Gurgaon, IGP Rohtak range, and SSP positions in Rohtak, Panipat, Faridabad, and SP Panchkula.

Academic Excellence and Specializations

Both promoted officers bring strong academic credentials to their new roles. Alok Mittal completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Roorkee in 1990 and later enhanced his qualifications with a postgraduate diploma in cyber laws from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad during 2010-11.

Arshinder Singh Chawla, currently serving as Director of the Haryana Police Academy at Madhuban in Karnal, has equally impressive academic achievements. He holds a Master's degree in Police Management from Osmania University and a Master's in Human Rights from Pondicherry University. His intellectual contributions include publishing five research papers, with one presented at an international conference and four at national levels.

International Experience and Recognition

Chawla's career is marked by significant international exposure, having served as an international police officer in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo between 2003 and 2004. His exceptional performance has earned him numerous accolades, including the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2009 and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2020.

In 2022, Chawla received an appreciation letter from the state government for his outstanding leadership in planning, coordinating, and executing the ERSS/Dial-112 project. This crucial initiative, launched in July 2021, has significantly improved emergency response services for Haryana's citizens.

Chawla holds the unique distinction of being the only officer from Haryana to receive the IPS Association's prestigious "Sword of Honour" from the National Police Academy in Hyderabad.

The promotion of both officers to DGP rank in the level-16 pay matrix, which ranges between Rs 2.05 lakh and Rs 2.24 lakh, represents a significant milestone in their distinguished careers and reinforces Haryana's commitment to recognizing professional excellence in police administration.
