Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij Orders Statewide Vigilance Probe into Vehicle Registration Irregularities
Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday recommended a comprehensive vigilance probe into alleged irregularities in vehicle registrations across the state. The investigation will cover all registering authorities and regional transport offices following complaints of misappropriation of power and corrupt practices within the transport department.
Ambala Case Triggers Statewide Investigation
The recommendation came after specific complaints emerged from Ambala, where vehicles were allegedly registered locally using addresses from Tamil Nadu. Minister Vij stated that after learning about these registrations in Ambala, he suspected similar malpractices could be occurring throughout Haryana. This suspicion prompted his decision to recommend a probe encompassing all offices under his department.
Vij has formally asked the additional chief secretary of transport to communicate his recommendation to the vigilance bureau for immediate action. The minister emphasized that the probe would be thorough and uncompromising in addressing any corruption or irregularities found within the vehicle registration system.
Strict Measures for Construction Material Transport
In addition to the registration probe, Minister Vij has taken a firm stance on vehicles transporting dust, sand, and other loose construction materials without proper covering. He has directed that all such trucks and transport vehicles must be adequately covered with tarpaulin or other suitable means to prevent environmental pollution and road hazards.
Violators will face fines under both the Motor Vehicles Act and pollution control guidelines, Vij confirmed. This directive aims to address growing concerns about air quality and road safety issues caused by uncovered construction material transport.
Enforcement of Stage Carriage Scheme and Heavy Vehicle Restrictions
The transport minister has also directed officials to ensure strict compliance with the Stage Carriage Scheme-2016, which was notified on February 17, 2017. Vij revealed that numerous complaints had been received regarding violations of this scheme by private stage carriage operators.
According to the scheme, permit holders are required to provide travel facilities to students, concessional pass holders, and free-pass holders in their buses without any government subsidy. Vij emphasized that operators must adhere to these provisions without exception.
Furthermore, Vij has ordered action against the unauthorized entry of heavy vehicles in city areas. The minister noted that such vehicles often divert into congested areas, markets, and residential sectors to save time and fuel, leading to multiple problems:
- Severe traffic congestion in urban areas
- Damage to public property and infrastructure
- Increased risk of accidents in crowded locations
These comprehensive measures reflect the transport department's commitment to addressing systemic issues, improving regulatory compliance, and enhancing public safety across Haryana's transportation network.
