Calcutta High Court Refuses to Extend TMC Leader Jahangir Khan's Interim Protection
HC Refuses Extension of TMC Leader Jahangir Khan's Protection

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court's vacation bench on Tuesday refused to extend the interim protection granted to TMC strongman Jahangir Khan in connection with five FIRs. Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee referred the matter to a regular bench for further consideration.

Background of the Case

Earlier, the TMC candidate for Falta had been granted interim protection by Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya until May 26, taking into account the repolls scheduled in the constituency on May 21. The state government had approached Justice Bhattacharyya's bench seeking to vacate the order before the interim protection expired, but the judge declined to intervene.

Details of the FIRs

The five FIRs were registered against Khan following the announcement of assembly poll results on May 4. The nature of the allegations in these FIRs has not been disclosed in the court proceedings.

The vacation bench's decision means that Khan will have to approach the regular bench for any further relief. The matter is now expected to be listed before a regular bench in due course.
