Himachal BJP President Criticizes State Government for Neglecting Public Welfare

In a sharp critique, Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal on Saturday lambasted the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government, accusing it of squandering nearly 40 months by engaging in political blame games rather than prioritizing concrete development and public welfare initiatives.

Allegations of Failed Development and Service Withdrawals

Bindal, in a press statement, asserted that the Congress administration has consistently failed to deliver tangible progress for the people of Himachal Pradesh. He highlighted a concerning trend where essential institutions, including schools, colleges, hospitals, primary health centers, and veterinary hospitals, are being shut down. This is despite the government reportedly securing loans amounting to approximately Rs 45,000 crore, raising questions about the allocation of these funds.

The BJP leader alleged that while the state government continues to make grand announcements in the name of development, basic services are being systematically withdrawn from the public at the grassroots level. This disconnect between promises and on-ground realities has exacerbated hardships for citizens, according to Bindal.

Financial Burden and Tax Hikes Criticized

Bindal further accused the government of imposing a significant financial burden on residents through multiple tax increases. He detailed specific hikes, including:

  • A rise in value added tax (VAT) on diesel by Rs 7.50.
  • Increases in stamp duty, water charges, and electricity tariffs.
  • Higher prices at ration depots and increased HRTC bus fares.

He also criticized the sharp escalation in entry tax rates, warning that such measures would further fuel inflation, making everyday essentials more expensive for the common people.

Concerns Over Law and Order and Mafia Activities

In addition to economic issues, Bindal raised alarms about the deteriorating law and order situation in Himachal Pradesh. He alleged that forest and mining mafias are operating freely across the state, enjoying political protection that allows them to evade legal consequences. This, he claimed, undermines governance and poses a threat to environmental and public safety.

The BJP president's statements underscore growing political tensions in the state, with the opposition intensifying its scrutiny of the Congress government's performance as it approaches the midpoint of its term. The allegations highlight a broader narrative of accountability and governance that is likely to shape upcoming political discourse in Himachal Pradesh.
