Himachal's 5th Dsala Walkathon Intensifies Anti-Chitta Drive
Himachal's 5th Dsala Walkathon Against Drugs

Himachal Pradesh is gearing up for a significant anti-drug initiative as the state prepares to host the fifth edition of the Dsala Walkathon in Mandi district. This event marks a crucial escalation in the government's ongoing battle against chitta and other narcotic substances that have been affecting communities across the region.

Mass Participation in Anti-Drug Movement

The upcoming walkathon, scheduled for December 24, represents a collaborative effort between the state government and local communities. According to official sources, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will personally lead the walkathon, demonstrating the administration's commitment to tackling the drug menace head-on.

State Education, Transport, and Language Art and Culture Minister Rohit Thakur has been actively promoting the event, emphasizing its importance in the broader context of Himachal's anti-drug campaign. The minister revealed that similar walkathons are being organized across all 68 constituencies in the state, creating a unified front against substance abuse.

Comprehensive Anti-Drug Strategy

The Dsala Walkathon forms part of a multi-pronged approach to combat drug trafficking and addiction. Recent enforcement actions have yielded significant results, with authorities registering 19 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the past week alone. These operations have led to the arrest of 26 individuals involved in drug-related activities.

Law enforcement agencies have achieved notable successes in disrupting drug supply chains. During the intensified drive, police have seized substantial quantities of illicit substances, including 111.87 grams of heroin and 8.872 kg of charas. Additionally, authorities have confiscated 8,714 intoxicant tablets/capsules, 841 intoxicant injections, and 41.5 liters of illicit liquor.

Expanding the Reach of Prevention

Beyond enforcement actions, the government is focusing on prevention and awareness. The walkathon initiative aims to mobilize communities and foster collective responsibility in the fight against drugs. Minister Thakur has called for widespread participation from all sections of society, particularly urging the youth to join the movement.

The state government has been implementing various measures to strengthen its anti-drug framework. These include enhanced surveillance, community policing initiatives, and rehabilitation programs for those affected by substance abuse. The coordinated approach involves multiple departments working together to address both the supply and demand aspects of the drug problem.

As Himachal Pradesh intensifies its anti-chitta drive, the Dsala Walkathon serves as a powerful symbol of the state's determination to create drug-free communities. The event promises to bring together citizens, officials, and community leaders in a show of solidarity against the scourge of addiction.
