Hindu petitioners seek free entry at Bhojshala after HC verdict

Following the High Court verdict, Hindu petitioners have approached the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) seeking free entry for devotees at the Bhojshala complex in Madhya Pradesh. Petitioner Ashish Goyal, associated with the 'Hindu Front for Justice', submitted an application to the ASI on Wednesday, arguing that worshippers should not be charged even the existing Re 1 entry fee.

Background of the petition

The Bhojshala site, a medieval monument, has been a subject of dispute between Hindu and Muslim communities. Hindus claim it as a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, while Muslims consider it as a mosque. The recent High Court verdict allowed Hindus to worship at the site, but the ASI had imposed a nominal fee of Re 1 for entry.

Petitioner's argument

Ashish Goyal stated that the fee is a burden on devotees and contradicts the spirit of the court's order, which aimed to facilitate worship. He emphasized that the Bhojshala is a place of religious significance, and charging any fee violates the devotees' right to free access.

The application requests the ASI to immediately withdraw the entry fee and ensure free entry for all devotees. The matter is expected to be reviewed by the ASI authorities in the coming days.
