Himachal Pradesh Government Allocates Rs 500 Crore to Clear Contractor Dues
In a significant move to address financial obligations, the Himachal Pradesh government has released a substantial sum of Rs 500 crore specifically aimed at clearing pending payments owed to contractors. This allocation is intended to settle all outstanding dues up to March 1, ensuring that development projects across the state can proceed without financial hindrances.
Government's Commitment to Financial Discipline
Naresh Chauhan, the principal adviser (media) to the chief minister, emphasized the state administration's dedication to maintaining robust financial discipline. He highlighted that this latest disbursement follows an earlier release of Rs 250 crore for the same purpose, demonstrating a consistent effort to manage state finances responsibly.
Chauhan stated, "The government is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring that all development works in Himachal Pradesh continue smoothly, without any obstacles caused by delayed payments." He further explained that timely settlement of contractor dues is crucial for sustaining infrastructure and public welfare projects.
Political Criticism and Call for Cooperation
Taking a firm stance against the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chauhan expressed disappointment over their repeated comments regarding the state's financial condition. He urged BJP leaders to move beyond criticism and instead collaborate with the government in tackling the challenges facing Himachal Pradesh.
"It is unfortunate that opposition leaders have not shown the necessary seriousness on issues that directly impact the interests of our state," Chauhan remarked. He called for a more constructive approach from the BJP, emphasizing that cooperation is essential for effective governance and problem-solving.
Concerns Over Central Assistance
Chauhan also raised concerns about financial support from the central government. He noted that during a recent disaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a relief package of Rs 1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh, but this amount has not yet been received by the state.
Additionally, he pointed out that while Congress party's Rajya Sabha MP, Rajani Patil, raised this issue in Parliament, BJP MPs from Himachal Pradesh failed to highlight critical matters such as the discontinuation of the revenue deficit grant and other financial assistance. This lack of advocacy, according to Chauhan, underscores the need for greater political unity in addressing the state's fiscal needs.
The release of Rs 500 crore marks a proactive step by the Himachal Pradesh government to stabilize its financial ecosystem and support ongoing development initiatives, amidst ongoing political debates over state finances.
