Hyderabad Election Commission Reverses Controversial BLO Appointment Decision
In a significant policy reversal, the Hyderabad State Election Commission has rolled back its decision to appoint sanitation workers as Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The issue gained public attention when, in the Barkas area under the Chandrayangutta constituency, a sanitation worker responded to residents who called the number listed on the election commission website for their booth's BLO. V Surender, the electoral registration officer, stated, "We are appointing Anganwadi workers in their place now and have removed the sanitation workers. The Anganwadi workers are under training now."
He emphasized that the sanitation workers were never meant to serve as permanent BLOs, adding, "They were assigned purely on an interim basis until adequately trained staff could be mobilised." This clarification aimed to reassure the public that the commission is committed to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
