Hyderabad Police Arrest Former Corporator's Son Following Violent Anti-Encroachment Clash
In a significant development, Hyderabad police have made an arrest following violent clashes that erupted during an anti-encroachment drive conducted by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The incident, which occurred on Saturday, saw alleged obstruction by AIMIM leaders and resulted in injuries to a police constable.
Arrest and Judicial Proceedings
Sahil Akber, the son of former corporator Ghouse, was arrested by Hyderabad police on Sunday. He has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar confirmed the arrest in an official statement, emphasizing that legal action is being pursued against all accused individuals.
"Sahil Akber has been arrested and produced before the court for judicial remand. Efforts are underway to take further legal action against the remaining accused," Commissioner Sajjanar stated. The arrest was reportedly met with mild tension as Akber allegedly resisted police during the apprehension.
Incident Details and Accusations
The confrontation took place on Saturday during a GHMC anti-encroachment operation at Murgi Chowk in the Hussainialam area. The drive, which covered the stretch from Lad Bazar to Puranapool, aimed to clear unauthorized encroachments.
According to police reports, a group of local residents, allegedly supported by the accused individuals, created significant disruption during the operation. This obstruction resulted in a constable, deployed for bandobust (security arrangements), sustaining a hand injury.
Political Involvement and Viral Videos
The incident has drawn attention due to the involvement of AIMIM leaders. Videos capturing the alleged obstruction by these leaders quickly went viral on various social media platforms. In these videos, the leaders are seen accusing GHMC officials of evicting footpath vendors without providing prior notice, a claim that has added a political dimension to the enforcement action.
In addition to Sahil Akber, his father former corporator Ghouse and MLC Rahmat Baig have been named as accused in the case. The police are actively investigating their roles in the incident.

Commissioner Sajjanar issued a stern warning regarding interference with public officials. "Any attempt to obstruct public servants or resort to violence against officials discharging their lawful duties will be dealt with firmly, as per law," he asserted. This statement underscores the administration's commitment to maintaining order and ensuring that municipal operations proceed without unlawful hindrance.
