Central Government Approves Survey for Hyderabad Regional Ring Rail Project

In a significant development for Telangana's infrastructure plans, the central government has sanctioned a survey for the proposed Regional Ring Rail around Hyderabad. This move represents a crucial first step in creating an integrated road and rail network connecting the Outer Ring Road, Regional Ring Road, surrounding districts, and neighboring states.

Official Communication from Union Railways Minister

Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh informed Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy through a written reply on March 6 that the survey for the regional ring rail has been officially sanctioned. Based on this survey, the detailed project report (DPR) can now be prepared.

"The survey for the Regional Ring Rail around Hyderabad city was sanctioned as a first step toward preparing the DPR of the project," stated MP Kiran Kumar Reddy. "The proposed railway alignment is likely to run along the Regional Ring Road (RRR) and is currently being finalized in consultation with the Telangana government."

Project Approval Process and Next Steps

According to Minister Ravneet Singh's written response, once the detailed project report is completed, the project will undergo a comprehensive approval process. This will include consultations with various stakeholders, including the state government, followed by necessary approvals from NITI Aayog and the Union Finance Ministry before final sanction is granted.

The Union minister shared this update in response to an issue raised by Reddy under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha regarding the railway line project in Hyderabad. This parliamentary procedure allows members to raise matters of urgent public importance for written responses from ministers.

Expected Benefits and Regional Impact

The proposed Regional Ring Rail project, once completed, is expected to significantly improve transport connectivity between districts surrounding Hyderabad. This enhanced connectivity is anticipated to provide a substantial boost to regional economic development by facilitating easier movement of goods and people.

The project aligns with the Telangana government's broader vision of creating comprehensive transportation infrastructure that connects various parts of the state and improves inter-state connectivity. The integration of rail networks with existing road infrastructure like the Outer Ring Road and Regional Ring Road represents a strategic approach to multimodal transportation planning.

As the survey work begins, stakeholders will be closely monitoring the project's progress, which represents a collaborative effort between state and central governments to address Hyderabad's growing transportation needs and support regional development objectives.
