Residents of Vengal Rao Nagar Colony in Hyderabad have voiced strong opposition to the mortuary facility planned at the upcoming Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (TIMS) Hospital in Sanathnagar. They are urging authorities to relocate the facility to a different area within the hospital campus.
The residents clarified that they are not against the hospital or its medical services. Their demand is specifically that the mortuary be moved to a more suitable location. According to them, the planned site is situated on the main road and in close proximity to residential areas, which could adversely affect thousands of families living nearby.
Alternative Location Suggested
Residents have pointed out that there is sufficient vacant land available within the hospital premises, particularly near the Government Chest Hospital, where the mortuary could be set up instead. They believe this alternative location would be more appropriate and less disruptive to the community.
Efforts to Address Concerns
Residents have made multiple attempts to communicate their concerns to the authorities. They have met with the hospital director, superintendent, and other officials on several occasions. Additionally, they approached local MLA Naveen Yadav and requested his intervention in the matter.
Petitions were also submitted to the Health Minister, health department officials, and other public representatives about a month ago. However, residents claim that no action has been taken so far, leaving them frustrated and worried.
Health and Environmental Concerns
Many residents are concerned that the regular movement of bodies and funeral vehicles near their homes could be disturbing, especially for children and elderly people. They have also raised alarms about potential environmental and public health issues if the mortuary is not managed properly. The community is demanding a swift resolution to ensure their well-being and peace of mind.
