IAS Reshuffle in Maharashtra: New Collectors for Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Latur

Major Administrative Reshuffle in Maharashtra Impacts Marathwada Region

In a significant administrative overhaul, the Maharashtra government has implemented a comprehensive reshuffle of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, triggering key leadership changes across the Marathwada region. The transfer orders, issued on April 2, have resulted in new district collectors taking charge in Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Latur districts.

New Leadership in Sambhajinagar District

Vinay Gowda G.C. officially assumed the position of district collector for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Friday, marking a transition in the region's administrative leadership. Gowda, a 2015-batch IAS officer, was transferred from his previous posting in Chandrapur to head the Sambhajinagar district administration.

He replaces outgoing collector Deelip Swami, a 2011-batch IAS officer who has been reassigned as the managing director of the Maharashtra State Seeds Corporation in Akola. This change represents a strategic shift in the district's governance structure.

Municipal Commissioner Transfers and Continuity Concerns

The reshuffle also affected municipal leadership in Sambhajinagar, with G. Sreekanth (IAS, 2009) being transferred from his position as municipal commissioner of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation. He has been appointed as chief executive officer of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Navi Mumbai.

However, district guardian minister Sanjay Shirsat and OBC welfare minister Atul Save have indicated they will seek an extension of Sreekanth's tenure from chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The ministers cited the critical need for continuity to successfully complete the parallel water pipeline project, highlighting the importance of stable leadership for ongoing infrastructure initiatives.

Replacing Sreekanth as municipal commissioner is Amol Yedge (IAS, 2014), who was previously serving as collector of Kolhapur. Interestingly, Yedge did not arrive in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to formally assume his new responsibilities on Friday, creating a temporary gap in the transition process.

Addressing Administrative Gaps in Jalna

The reshuffle has finally resolved a long-standing administrative vacancy in Jalna district. Anjali Sharma (IAS, 2022) has been appointed as the full-time municipal commissioner for Jalna Municipal Corporation, ending a period of interim leadership that began on October 16, 2025.

The civic body had been operating without a regular chief since former commissioner Santosh Khandekar was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a contractor. During this interim period, additional charge was managed by Jalna collector Ashima Mittal.

Additional Key Postings and Transfers

Further administrative changes include the transfer of Minnu P.M. (IAS, 2021), who previously served as chief executive officer of Zilla Parishad Jalna. She has now taken charge as CEO of Zilla Parishad Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, replacing Ankit (IAS, 2019), who has been reassigned as additional municipal commissioner at Nagpur Municipal Corporation.

Concurrently, Krishnakant Kanwaria (IAS, 2022) has been appointed as the new CEO of Zilla Parishad Jalna, completing the leadership transition in that district's administrative structure.

Leadership Change in Latur District

Latur district will also experience a change in administrative leadership with the appointment of Bharat Bastewad (IAS, 2013) as the new district collector. He replaces outgoing collector Varsha Thakur-Ghuge (IAS, 2011), who has been transferred to Mumbai to assume the position of joint chief executive officer at the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation.

Impact on Regional Governance and Projects

This late-night administrative reshuffle is expected to significantly impact ongoing infrastructure and governance projects throughout the Marathwada region. The changes are particularly crucial for Sambhajinagar and Jalna districts, where continuity in civic administration has emerged as a pressing concern in recent months.

The comprehensive nature of these transfers suggests a strategic realignment of administrative talent across Maharashtra, with potential implications for project implementation timelines, bureaucratic efficiency, and regional development initiatives. As new officers settle into their roles, stakeholders will be closely monitoring how these leadership changes affect the execution of critical public works and governance priorities in the affected districts.
