IMD Forecasts Thunderstorms and Light Rain for Pune

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast for Pune, predicting that the city will experience mainly clear skies that will become partly cloudy towards the afternoon or evening, accompanied by likely thunderstorms, lightning, and light rain. This forecast comes as the southwest monsoon officially entered Maharashtra on Saturday and is expected to gradually cover other parts of the state over the coming week.

Monsoon Progress and Weather Systems

A senior IMD official stated that existing weather conditions are expected to bring rainfall to various locations in Maharashtra, particularly in the Konkan and coastal areas. According to an IMD press release, multiple weather systems were active around the country on Sunday. These conditions are favorable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon into several regions over the next three to four days, including parts of central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bay of Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, northeastern states, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Active Weather Systems

The persisting weather systems include upper air cyclonic circulations over east Uttar Pradesh and neighboring areas, over north Haryana and adjacent regions in lower tropospheric levels, and over eastcentral Arabian Sea off the south Konkan coast in the middle tropospheric levels. Additionally, an east-west trough extending from coastal Karnataka and neighboring areas to coastal Andhra Pradesh, as well as another trough from east Uttar Pradesh to Telangana across Chhattisgarh, are contributing to the weather patterns.
