Indore Braces for Temporary Power Cuts During Rangpanchami Celebrations

The city of Indore is set to experience planned power disruptions this Sunday as authorities implement temporary suspensions of electricity supply from 11 kV lines across 16 different feeders. This precautionary measure has been organized in anticipation of the traditional Rangpanchami Gair procession, a major cultural event known for its vibrant street celebrations.

Comprehensive Electrical Safety Plan Finalized

Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company has developed and finalized a detailed electrical safety strategy specifically for the procession. City Superintending Engineer DK Gathe explained the rationale behind the power cuts, noting that high-pressure water cannons and fire-fighting equipment are expected to spray colored water up to 150 feet into the air during the festivities.

"As a precautionary measure to prevent any electrical accidents, power supply from 11 kV lines across 16 feeders will be temporarily suspended at various intervals throughout the city on Sunday," Gathe stated. The suspensions will be implemented strategically along the procession route to ensure maximum safety for both participants and infrastructure.

Infrastructure Secured Along Procession Route

The electricity department has undertaken significant preparations to secure the city's power infrastructure along the entire procession path. Crews have raised cables and wires to safe heights to prevent contact with celebratory activities, and damaged transformer boxes along the route have been systematically replaced with new equipment.

A temporary electrical control room will become operational at Subhash Chowk zone specifically for monitoring and managing the power situation during the event. Additionally, a specialized team of 60 personnel, including 14 qualified engineers, will be strategically stationed at various grids and transformers from Tory Corner to Rajwada and Krishnapura.

Coordinated Safety Efforts with Multiple Agencies

The electricity department conducted a comprehensive joint inspection with both the district administration and local police forces to identify potential electrical hazards along the procession route. Officials have confirmed that technical staff will remain on-site throughout the entire event to actively manage both high-voltage and low-voltage power lines.

This coordinated effort ensures that electricity can be restored immediately and safely once the procession has passed through each area, minimizing inconvenience to residents while prioritizing public safety during the cultural celebrations. The temporary power suspensions represent a proactive approach to preventing accidents during what is expected to be one of the city's largest street celebrations of the year.
