A Rajasthan roadways bus from the Kekri depot caught fire on Friday afternoon near the Mansarovar area in Jaipur, according to officials. The bus was carrying approximately 70 passengers, all of whom were safely evacuated along with the driver and conductor, with no injuries reported in the incident.
Short Circuit Suspected as Cause of the Fire
Officials stated that the fire likely originated from a short circuit in the vehicle. Rakesh Rai, the chief manager of the Sindhi Camp bus terminal, provided details on the sequence of events. "The bus had departed from Sindhi Camp for the Kekri depot on Friday afternoon. During the journey, the driver noticed smoke emanating from the rear section of the bus. Acting swiftly, the driver immediately halted the bus and instructed all passengers to disembark. Thanks to the driver's alertness, no one sustained any injuries in this unfortunate incident," Rai explained.
Timely Evacuation Prevents Casualties
The incident occurred as the bus was traveling towards Sanganer from the Mansarovar RICO intersection. Upon detecting the smoke, the driver promptly stopped the vehicle on the road. As passengers were evacuating, the fire intensified, ultimately engulfing the entire bus in flames. Despite the rapid spread of the fire, the quick response ensured that everyone escaped safely.
In response to this incident, senior officials have announced that all buses in the fleet will undergo thorough inspections to prevent similar accidents in the future. This proactive measure aims to enhance safety standards and avoid potential hazards, emphasizing the importance of regular maintenance and vigilance in public transportation systems.
