The controversy surrounding an alleged calf beheading incident in Ashokpura, Jaipur, has escalated dramatically after Shyam Nagar police disclosed on Friday that a medical examination determined the recovered bovine head to be a fabricated dummy. This revelation has sparked intense political debate and demands for transparency.
Police Statement and Medical Report Findings
Shyam Nagar Station House Officer Dalbeer Singh provided crucial details to the media, stating, "According to the conclusive medical report, the recovered head is not authentic but rather a manufactured dummy, as forensic examination revealed the complete absence of bones within the specimen." The officer further emphasized that this situation was being exploited to manipulate public emotions and create unnecessary tension in the community.
Political Figures Challenge Police Claims
Former minister and prominent Congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariyawas immediately contested the police assertion, demanding immediate public release of the complete medical report. He voiced serious concerns about potential investigative bias, alleging that the investigation was being systematically influenced to protect the accused individual from legal consequences.
Khachariyawas issued a stern warning regarding the medical examination process, declaring, "If fabricated medical reports are being prepared through improper means, the responsible doctors will face legal proceedings in court for their professional misconduct."
Origins of the Controversy
The controversy initially erupted on February 9 when children playing in Lane No. 3 of Ashokpura, within the Shyam Nagar police jurisdiction, reportedly discovered what appeared to be a calf's head suspended near a property owned by accused Satyanarayan Sharma. Local residents promptly alerted authorities, triggering a formal police inquiry.
In an official press statement issued that same day, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rajrishi Raj presented the accused's initial account. According to this statement, Sharma claimed that a calf from his cattle shed had died from natural causes, with its body subsequently transported to Hingoniya Gaushala via a Jaipur Municipal Corporation vehicle for proper disposal.
The police statement further elaborated that the accused asserted he later retrieved the calf's head from the gaushala and displayed it before the mother cow, who had allegedly become distressed following her calf's absence and consequently ceased milk production.
Contradictory Accounts and Emerging Evidence
Complicating the narrative, the trust managing Hingoniya Gaushala later issued a denial, contradicting the initial police statement by confirming that no deceased calf had been delivered to their shelter by JMC personnel for burial purposes.
On Friday, additional dimensions emerged when an archived video clip circulated widely across social media platforms. This footage purportedly showed the accused stating he had paid Rs 500 to have the dead calf's head returned from Hingoniya Gaushala. Citing this video evidence, Khachariyawas intensified his allegations, claiming the state government was orchestrating a cover-up to shield the accused for undisclosed political motivations.
Defense from Accused's Family
Harish Kumar Sharma, the accused's brother and a former municipal councillor, vehemently rejected all allegations while providing an alternative explanation. He asserted that only selective portions of the viral video were being disseminated to misrepresent the situation.
According to his account, the Rs 500 payment was specifically for carcass removal services, and he maintained that his brother was absent from Jaipur when the calf died, having delegated the matter to an acquaintance after receiving a telephone notification.
He further claimed that when the cow stopped lactating the following day, a member of the Harijan community was commissioned to create an artificial calf's head. The situation escalated when this dummy head was displayed on the morning of February 9. Sharma denied any political connections and alleged that supporters of Khachariyawas had attempted to coerce a statement from his brother through intimidation tactics.

BJP MLA Gopal Sharma, whose Civil Lines constituency encompasses the controversy area, refrained from commenting on Friday, indicating he would provide a comprehensive statement at a later time as developments continue to unfold.
