Jaipur Development Authority Unveils Major Infrastructure Plan to Alleviate Traffic
The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has announced a significant infrastructure initiative aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the Pink City. The authority is planning to construct four new culverts over the Dravyavati River, a move expected to streamline vehicular movement and enhance connectivity across key areas.
Strategic Locations and Key Benefits
According to officials, the proposed box culverts will be strategically positioned at critical points to facilitate smoother traffic flow. The construction sites include areas behind the New Atish Market, near the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Devri, and close to the RIICO STP in Sanganer. These locations were chosen to improve access between bustling neighborhoods such as Katewa Nagar, New Sanganer Road, and Govind Marg.
The primary objective of this project is to decongest major arterial roads, including Tonk Road, Gopalpura Bypass Road, and Shipra Path. Currently, vehicles are forced to detour over distances ranging from 2.5 to 4 kilometers to cross the river, causing delays and increasing traffic pressure on these routes.
Project Approval and Financial Commitment
The proposal for these culverts has already received the green light from the Traffic Control Board (TCB) of the civic body during its 94th meeting. Furthermore, the Projects Works Committee (PWC) of JDA has granted both financial and administrative approvals, paving the way for construction to commence.
JDA will allocate a substantial budget of Rs 16.67 crore for the construction of these four culverts, as confirmed by an official statement released on Monday. This investment underscores the authority's commitment to addressing urban mobility challenges in Jaipur.
Widespread Impact on Daily Commuters and Residents
Once operational, the new culverts are projected to benefit approximately 40,000 vehicles per day by eliminating the need for lengthy detours. This improvement is expected to significantly reduce travel times and enhance overall road safety.
In addition to aiding commuters, the project will directly impact the lives of residents in at least 60 colonies situated on both sides of the Dravyavati River. Improved connectivity will facilitate easier access to markets, workplaces, and other essential services, thereby boosting the quality of life in these communities.
Broader Development Initiatives Along the Dravyavati Corridor
Beyond the culvert construction, JDA is also undertaking complementary projects to further develop the Dravyavati corridor. The authority has earmarked Rs 6 crore for a feasibility study to explore the potential of building an elevated road along the 47-kilometer stretch of the river.
Moreover, plans are in place to beautify the riverbanks and develop visitor-friendly areas, aiming to transform the Dravyavati River into a more attractive and functional urban space. These efforts align with broader goals of sustainable urban development and enhanced public amenities in Jaipur.
The combined initiatives reflect a holistic approach to infrastructure improvement, focusing not only on traffic management but also on environmental aesthetics and recreational opportunities for the city's inhabitants.
