Major Fire Incident in Jaisalmer Village Destroys Property and Valuables

A severe fire erupted at a tubewell near Chhod village in Jaisalmer district on Friday, quickly spreading to engulf three adjacent huts. The incident, which occurred in the afternoon, resulted in substantial property damage and financial losses for a local farmer.

Details of the Fire and Immediate Response

Witnesses reported that flames began rising from the huts around Friday afternoon and rapidly intensified into a massive blaze. The fire was exacerbated when a gas cylinder stored inside one of the huts caught fire, further fueling the destruction. Fire brigade personnel arrived promptly and managed to douse the flames after approximately one hour of effort, preventing the fire from spreading to other structures in the area.

Financial and Personal Losses Incurred

The huts belonged to farmer Kishanaram, who suffered devastating losses in the fire. According to initial estimates, approximately Rs 6.50 lakh in cash and 15-20 tola of gold were completely destroyed in the blaze. Kishanaram detailed that he personally lost around Rs 5 lakh in cash and about 15 to 20 tola of gold. Additionally, grain, clothing, and other household goods worth lakhs of rupees stored in the huts were reduced to ashes.

Compounding the tragedy, Kishanaram's daughter, who had arrived from Pune, Maharashtra, just two days earlier with her children for a visit, also suffered losses. She had brought with her around Rs 1.5 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewellery, all of which were consumed by the fire, turning what was meant to be a joyful family reunion into a period of grief and hardship.

Narrow Escape from Potential Tragedy

Despite the extensive material damage, a major human tragedy was averted due to timely evacuation. Kishanaram successfully evacuated his children and other family members from the burning huts, ensuring their safety. This quick action prevented any injuries or loss of life, highlighting the importance of prompt response in emergency situations.

Community Impact and Aftermath

The fire has left Kishanaram and his family in a precarious situation, with not only their home destroyed but also their savings and valuables lost. The incident underscores the vulnerabilities faced by rural communities to such disasters and the need for enhanced fire safety measures in village settings. Local authorities are likely to assess the damage further and provide necessary assistance to the affected family.

This report highlights the urgent need for awareness and preparedness against fire hazards in rural areas, especially during dry seasons when such incidents are more prone to occur.
