According to officials, the overall turnout was 66.67 percent, with some wards witnessing higher participation. The highest turnout was recorded in Ward 32 at 78.4 percent, while the lowest was in Ward 15 at 54.2 percent. Women voters showed considerable enthusiasm, with a turnout of 68.2 percent compared to 65.1 percent for men.
Polling Arrangements
A total of 1,200 polling stations were set up across the district, including 45 model polling stations equipped with facilities for voters with disabilities. The Election Commission deployed 4,500 polling staff and 2,000 security personnel to ensure smooth conduct. Electronic voting machines were used in all booths, and arrangements for webcasting were made in sensitive areas.
Key Contestants
The main contest is between the ruling party and the opposition alliance, with independent candidates also in the fray. Major parties have fielded candidates in all wards, and campaigning saw heated exchanges over local issues such as sanitation, water supply, and road infrastructure.
Counting and Results
The counting of votes will take place on February 15 at the district headquarters. Authorities have made arrangements for a three-tier security cover at the counting center. The results are expected to be declared by evening.
