JD(U) Women's Leader Brutally Attacked in Broad Daylight
A prominent JD(U) women's wing leader became the victim of a violent attack in Bhojpur district on Monday afternoon. Sonam Patel, a 35-year-old political figure and resident of Kulhariya village, was allegedly stabbed by a co-villager in what appears to be the culmination of long-standing hostility between the parties involved.
The Violent Assault and Medical Response
The attack occurred when Sonam Patel, who serves as the Koilwar block president of the JD(U) women's cell, was traveling to a bank with her elder daughter. According to the victim's daughter, the accused intercepted them and launched a brutal assault on her mother near her back and waist area.
Following the stabbing, Sonam was immediately rushed to the Koilwar Primary Health Centre (PHC) where medical professionals administered five stitches to her wounds. Recognizing the seriousness of her injuries, doctors referred her to Ara Sadar Hospital for advanced medical care, where she continues to receive treatment.
Background of the Conflict and Police Action
The victim's daughter revealed that this violent incident stems from an ongoing dispute between the families. Last year, the family had filed an FIR against two co-villagers accusing them of harassing her younger sister. Since then, the accused had been pressuring the family to withdraw the case.
"The accused were putting continuous pressure on us to withdraw the case," the daughter stated. "Today, when I was going with my mother to a bank, they attacked her near her back and waist. They even thrashed her before stabbing her."
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed they are actively pursuing the case. Ranjit Kumar Singh, Sadar SDPO-2, assured that "the police are conducting intensive raids to apprehend the accused" and bring them to justice.
The incident has raised concerns about political violence and personal safety in rural Bihar, particularly for women in leadership positions. Local JD(U) members and supporters have expressed shock and demanded swift action against the perpetrators.
