Opposition Leader Launches Scathing Attack on BJP Over Women's Reservation Bill
In a fiery political confrontation in Jaipur, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully launched a sharp and comprehensive attack on BJP state president Madan Rathore on Saturday, branding his recent remarks as "factually baseless and profoundly misleading." Jully went further to allege that the ruling party's much-publicized pro-women stance is "merely an electoral facade" designed for political gain rather than genuine intent.
Accusations of Deception and Demands for Resignation
Jully specifically raised the critical issue of the Women's Reservation Bill, accusing the central government of failing to implement the constitutional amendment "in its true spirit." In a dramatic escalation, he demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resignation "on moral grounds," arguing that "a government that gives only deception to half the country's population in the name of their rights has no moral right to remain in power."
Allegations of Hidden Agenda and Constitutional Violations
The opposition leader alleged that the issue extends far beyond the reservation bill itself, claiming there is "a deeper conspiracy related to delimitation hidden behind it." He asserted that the Modi government wants to proceed with delimitation without conducting a caste census, which would allegedly grant the BJP "complete freedom to act arbitrarily and manipulate electoral constituencies." Jully stated that the opposition has consistently opposed this "hidden agenda."
Targeting the Centre with intensified criticism, Jully accused the government of "trying to wound the fundamental spirit of the Constitution" by transforming women's reservation into a "political weapon." He declared that the Congress party would "stop with full force every step" aimed at weakening constitutional principles "in the name of women," adding emphatically that "tampering with the rights of Dalits and backward classes will no longer be tolerated."
Questions Over Implementation Delays and Political Strategy
Jully pointedly questioned why the Women's Reservation Bill, which was passed unanimously in Parliament in 2023, has not been implemented. He accused the central government of deliberately delaying implementation by entangling it in "the complex web of census and delimitation processes."
In a broader critique of the BJP's governance approach, Jully accused the party of fundamentally lacking consensus-building capabilities. He stated that the government has "not even an iota of faith in 'consensus'," and is systematically misleading the country through sophisticated "event management" and "public relations strategies" rather than substantive policy implementation.
The political confrontation highlights growing tensions over women's representation and constitutional implementation as electoral dynamics intensify in Rajasthan.
