Kanpur Woman Dies by Suicide Following Marital Argument
A tragic incident unfolded in Kanpur on Thursday, where a 26-year-old woman, identified as Lakshmi Vishwakarma, ended her life after a dispute with her husband. The event occurred in the Kalyanpur police station area, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Incident
Lakshmi Vishwakarma, a resident of Sikandara, was found deceased in her rented accommodation. Her husband, Mohit Katiyar, who works as a driver, had left for duty following an argument with his wife earlier in the day. When he could not reach her on the phone, he grew concerned and asked her friend, Pooja, to check on her.
Upon arriving at the residence, Pooja found the doors locked. Peering through a window, she discovered Lakshmi's body hanging from a noose. She immediately alerted the landlord and local authorities.
Police Investigation and Background
Station in-charge Santosh Kumar Singh confirmed the incident, stating, "The body has been sent for postmortem and further legal proceedings are underway." The police revealed that the couple had been married for approximately six months and had moved into the rented room on March 8.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the suicide, focusing on the marital dispute that preceded the tragedy. The community has been left in mourning, with calls for greater awareness around mental health and domestic issues.
