Kanpur's Development Surge: 252 Projects Completed in Nine Years
Kanpur witnessed a significant transformation under the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, with approximately 252 development projects completed in the district since 2017 at a cost of around Rs 1,503.89 crore. This announcement was made by Minister for Higher Education and Minister in-charge of Kanpur Nagar district, Yogendra Upadhyaya, on Wednesday, marking the completion of nine years of BJP governance in the state.
Expansion Across Key Sectors
Upadhyaya emphasized that housing, sanitation, healthcare, education, and social security schemes have experienced extensive expansion during this period. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, a substantial number of houses were constructed, providing shelter to many residents. Simultaneously, the Swachh Bharat Mission revolutionized sanitation through the construction of millions of toilets, improving public health and hygiene across the district.
Infrastructure and Modernization Initiatives
The minister highlighted several key infrastructure projects that have positioned Kanpur as a modern and well-organized city. These include:
- The ongoing Kanpur Metro project, enhancing urban mobility.
- Development of the Ring Road to ease traffic congestion.
- Advancements in thermal power projects to boost energy supply.
- Facilities established under the Smart City initiative, integrating technology into urban planning.
Additionally, Upadhyaya noted that the state's expressway network, airport expansions, defence industrial corridor, and improved digital connectivity have collectively transformed Uttar Pradesh into a major hub for investment and industrial development.
Revolutionizing Education and Security
In the education sector, the minister reported unprecedented improvements since 2017. New universities and colleges have been established, accompanied by a significant enhancement in quality. The integration of technology into higher education has been a focal point, with initiatives such as:
- E-learning platforms and smart classrooms.
- Development of e-libraries for digital access to resources.
- Distribution of tablets to students, facilitating modern and competitive education.
On the security front, Upadhyaya attributed a significant decline in crimes like dacoity, robbery, murder, and kidnapping to the government's Zero Tolerance Policy, ensuring a safer environment for residents.
Agricultural and Economic Advancements
The minister also addressed economic and agricultural progress, stating that farmers' incomes have seen a substantial increase. Record payments have been ensured for sugarcane farmers, and direct financial assistance has been provided to crores of farmers through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, supporting rural livelihoods and boosting the agricultural economy.
The event was attended by prominent figures including Mayor Pramila Pandey, MLAs Mahesh Trivedi, Neelima Katiyar, Saroj Kureel, Anil Dixit, Shivram Singh, Upendra Paswan, DM Jitendra Pratap Singh, and CDO Deeksha Jain, underscoring the collaborative effort behind these developmental achievements.
