Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced the establishment of new secretariats dedicated to addressing people's grievances and issues faced by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). The announcement was made on June 5, 2026, during a press conference in Bengaluru.
Addressing Daily Protests
Noting that there were 2-3 protests each day, the chief minister emphasized the need to evaluate which demands are legal and which are not. He stated that the new secretariats would streamline the process of handling complaints and ensure timely resolutions.
Secretariat for People's Grievances
The first secretariat will focus on public grievances, aiming to reduce the frequency of protests by providing a formal channel for citizens to voice their concerns. This initiative is expected to improve communication between the government and the public.
Secretariat for NRIs
The second secretariat will cater specifically to the NRI community, addressing issues such as property disputes, legal matters, and investment queries. This move is seen as a step to strengthen ties with the diaspora and encourage investments in Karnataka.
The chief minister assured that both secretariats would be operational within three months and would be staffed with trained personnel to handle inquiries efficiently.
