Karnataka Deputy CM Announces Potential Sixth Guarantee: Free Land for Citizens
In a significant announcement, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated on Saturday that the state Congress government is considering the introduction of a scheme to provide free land as its sixth guarantee. This proposal hinges on continued public cooperation and support from the people of Karnataka.
Addressing Economic Hardships at Raichur Festival
Shivakumar made these remarks during the concluding ceremony of the three-day Ede Dore Nadu Raichur District Utsav–2026, held at the Agricultural Sciences University premises on Saturday night. He highlighted the severe economic challenges faced by citizens, noting that rising prices have led to a decline in incomes and widespread financial difficulties across the state.
"In this context, the government implemented five guarantee schemes to help the people. Free land will be the sixth guarantee," Shivakumar declared, emphasizing the government's commitment to alleviating public distress through progressive welfare measures.
Water Management Discussions with Andhra Pradesh
Beyond the land scheme, Shivakumar also addressed critical water-related issues raised by local residents. He acknowledged requests to prevent 33 TMC of water from the Tungabhadra reservoir from flowing into the sea through Andhra Pradesh, advocating for its optimal utilization within Karnataka.
The Deputy Chief Minister assured that this matter would be taken up for discussion with the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, aiming to find a mutually beneficial solution for water resource management.
