Karur Police File Case Against TVK Cadres Over Public Meeting Safety Breaches

The Karur town police have taken legal action against two cadres of the Thamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), including Karur central west town secretary Saravanan, for alleged violations during a party public meeting held on Wednesday. This case highlights growing concerns over public safety and regulatory compliance at political gatherings in the region.

Details of the Public Meeting and Alleged Violations

According to police reports, the TVK organized a public meeting on 80 Feet Road in Karur on Wednesday, which was attended by senior party members Nanjil Sampath and Rajamohan. The event, intended to rally support, has now come under scrutiny due to multiple safety and regulatory lapses identified by authorities.

Police investigations revealed that the generator used to supply power at the venue was handled negligently, posing a significant risk to public safety. This improper handling could have led to electrical hazards or accidents, endangering attendees and nearby residents. In addition, a large number of flex banners were erected in and around the meeting area without obtaining necessary approvals from civic and police authorities, violating local regulations on public space usage.

Legal Charges and Implications

The Karur police have booked cases under Section 289 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with negligent conduct likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life, and The Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act. These charges underscore the seriousness of the violations, focusing on both safety risks and unauthorized advertising that disfigures public spaces.

This incident serves as a reminder for political parties and organizers to adhere strictly to safety protocols and obtain proper permissions for public events. It also reflects the police's proactive stance in enforcing laws to prevent potential hazards and maintain order in urban areas.
