In a significant political development, former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) K Kavitha declared on Monday that the organization she leads, Telangana Jagruthi, will enter the electoral fray and contest the 2029 Legislative Assembly elections in Telangana. She made this announcement while firmly shutting the door on any possibility of rejoining the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the party she was formerly associated with.
A Definitive Break from BRS and a New Political Path
Addressing the media as part of the 'Jagruthi Janam Bata' programme in Gadwal district, Kavitha was unequivocal about her departure from the BRS. She revealed that her appointment as an MLC was done by the party against her own wishes. "I was deeply hurt within the party," she stated, adding with finality that she would not return to the BRS under any circumstances.
She reflected on her continued public connection even during her tenure as the Member of Parliament from Nizamabad, which she maintained through the "Mana Ooru – Mana MP" initiative. Kavitha asserted that despite facing political defeat, which she attributed to internal conspiracies within the party, her dedication to working for the people never wavered.
Spotlight on Gadwal's Alarming Literacy Crisis
Shifting focus to a pressing regional issue, Kavitha expressed grave concern over the abysmally low literacy levels in Gadwal district, particularly among women. She presented a stark contrast, noting that while the national literacy rate hovers around 80%, Gadwal lags far behind.
She highlighted a shocking statistic: female literacy is as low as 23% in the Ketheddoddi mandal of the district. Questioning the decades of development deficit, Kavitha pointed out that the district has been ruled by the same family for over 70 years. She directly urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to take special and immediate measures to overhaul the education system, with a particular emphasis on improving women's education in the region.
Jagruthi's Core Mission: Staying Rooted Among the People
Amidst her political announcements and critiques, Kavitha reiterated the fundamental priority of Telangana Jagruthi. The organization's primary focus, she stressed, is to remain firmly among the people, understanding their grievances and working at the grassroots level. This people-centric approach is positioned as the cornerstone of their preparation for the 2029 state elections, setting the stage for a new political player in Telangana's dynamic landscape.
