Kalvakuntla Kavitha Announces Formation of New Telangana Political Party
In a significant political development, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, founder-president of Telangana Jagruthi, has declared that she will officially launch her new political party in the first week of May this year. The announcement was made during a press interaction in Hyderabad on Thursday, where Kavitha outlined her ambitious plans for the upcoming electoral battles in the state.
Electoral Strategy and Constituency Focus
Kavitha revealed that her party, which will prominently feature 'Telangana' in its name, intends to contest the next assembly elections. She personally plans to stand as a candidate, with her priority constituencies being Siddipet or Bodhan. However, she emphasized that she is open to contesting from anywhere in Telangana, demonstrating flexibility in her political strategy.
The former MP asserted that Telangana Jagruthi currently serves as the main opposition in the state, actively raising people's issues. She highlighted their role as the principal opposition in the Peddapalli municipality, where they have supported several successful candidates in recent municipal elections.
Political Positioning and Alliances
Kavitha made it clear that her organization will continue to question established political parties, stating: "Jagruthi will continue to question the Congress, the BJP and the BRS, and the BJP is gradually disappearing in Telangana."
Looking ahead to upcoming elections, she expressed confidence in securing a sizeable number of seats in Zilla Parishad and other local body elections. Kavitha indicated that Jagruthi might form alliances with other parties for MPTC and ZPTC elections, while confirming they would contest GHMC elections under their own symbol, which will be finalized by that time.
Party Vision and Recruitment
The political leader shared insights into her party's vision and recruitment strategy: "After the launch, my party will give equal importance to all sections of society, with a special focus on youth. There is a need for young people to enter politics."
She revealed that 50 committees have been formed to understand people's issues through various discussions. Kavitha also disclosed that many BRS leaders are in touch with her organization and interested in joining the new party, though she plans to reveal specific details at an appropriate time.
Criticism of Congress Government
Earlier in her address, Kavitha launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, accusing it of betraying RTC workers and failing to implement clear promises. She specifically criticized the delay in implementing the RTC merger Bill, which has already been passed.
Kavitha questioned why the Congress government was deliberately delaying the implementation, noting that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had promised the RTC merger before elections but had "completely turned its back on RTC workers after coming to power."
Support for RTC Workers' Movement
In a show of solidarity, Kavitha announced that Telangana Jagruthi would offer full support to the RTC workers' "Chalo Secretariat" programme scheduled for February 24. She issued a warning that her organization would intensify its agitation if the government continued to ignore the workers' legitimate demands.
She demanded that the upcoming Budget session allocate dedicated funds for implementing assurances, particularly the long-pending merger of TGSRTC with the government.
This political move by Kalvakuntla Kavitha represents a significant development in Telangana's political landscape, potentially reshaping opposition dynamics ahead of crucial elections. Her emphasis on youth involvement, grassroots committees, and strong stance on worker issues positions her new party as a potentially influential force in state politics.
