KCR's Political Comeback: Blistering Attack on Congress Government
In a dramatic return to the political arena, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao delivered a fiery address on Monday, targeting the Congress administration in Telangana with severe criticism. The former chief minister declared that his first action upon regaining power would be to abolish the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), which he accused of being misused against the poor.
HYDRAA Abolition Promise and Allegations of Misuse
Addressing a 'Praja Ashirwada Sabha' in Jagtial district, KCR made his stance unequivocally clear. "I will sign the file to abolish HYDRAA on the very first day after BRS returns to power," he asserted. The BRS leader alleged that the agency was being weaponized to demolish homes of economically disadvantaged citizens under the guise of disaster response. He further claimed that the state government was planning to expand HYDRAA's operations to Nizamabad, potentially extending what he described as harmful practices to new regions.
Real Estate Sector Critique and Economic Comparisons
KCR contrasted what he portrayed as a thriving real estate market during BRS rule with the current slowdown under Congress governance. He claimed that during his administration, land along highways commanded prices of Rs 2–3 crore per acre, while plots along black-topped roads fetched approximately Rs 1 crore. "Today, there are no buyers," he lamented, attributing the decline to poor governance. The BRS chief also criticized the Musi River rejuvenation project, labeling it "nothing but a real estate venture aimed at land grabbing" rather than genuine environmental restoration.
Comprehensive Allegations of Governance Failures
In his 51-minute speech—marking his first major public address in nearly a year—KCR launched a multi-pronged attack on the Congress administration:
- Alleged scams in civil supplies, Singareni coal operations, and land transactions
- Highlighted failures in drinking water supply and maintenance of 24x7 power
- Criticized agricultural policies, particularly plans to install electricity meters on farm connections
Regarding agricultural electricity, KCR revealed, "We refused to install meters even when the Centre offered Rs 30,000 crore. Now the Congress is ready to compromise farmers' rights for central funding."
Defending BRS Legacy and Welfare Model
Positioning the BRS as the true guardian of Telangana's development, KCR contrasted his government's achievements with what he termed Congress's unfulfilled promises. He highlighted successful welfare schemes implemented during BRS rule:
- Rythu Bandhu farmer investment support scheme
- Dalit Bandhu economic empowerment program
- Comprehensive pension systems
- Drinking water initiatives reaching households
"Telangana ranked among top states in per capita income, power consumption, and household water coverage during our rule," KCR asserted. "Today, the state is in financial distress."
Political Critique and Future Vision
KCR criticized the Congress for failing to deliver on its "six guarantees and 420 promises" made during elections. "People are repenting for trusting them. With just 1.7% more votes, they came to power," he remarked, highlighting the narrow margin of Congress's victory.
Striking a defiant tone, the BRS leader declared, "Some people want me to die, but I will not die as per their wish." He called for a 'Punarnirmanam Yagnam'—a reconstruction movement—to rebuild Telangana and urged party workers to prepare for sustained political struggle.
Strategic Party Development
During the event, veteran politician T Jeevan Reddy formally joined the BRS, with KCR announcing his appointment as party general secretary. The BRS chief emphasized that Reddy's extensive political experience would be effectively utilized both within the party structure and in future governance frameworks, strengthening the opposition's organizational capabilities.
