Kejriwal slams Modi over ED raids in Punjab, says people will reply in 2027 polls

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids in Punjab, asserting that the people of the state will give a fitting reply to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2027 assembly elections.

Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Kejriwal accused the central government of misusing central agencies to target opposition leaders ahead of the upcoming Punjab elections. He claimed that the ED raids were politically motivated and aimed at intimidating AAP leaders and workers in the state.

“The people of Punjab are watching everything. They are not going to be fooled by these tactics. In 2027, they will give a reply to Modi ji through their votes,” Kejriwal said. He further alleged that the BJP was scared of AAP’s growing popularity in Punjab, where the party currently holds power.

The ED conducted searches at multiple locations in Punjab on Monday in connection with a money laundering case linked to alleged illegal mining. The raids targeted premises of former AAP MLA and other individuals. Kejriwal termed the actions as “harassment” and said that the central agencies were being used as a tool to settle political scores.

“Earlier, they used the CBI and now the ED. They think that by conducting raids, they can break our spirit. But they are mistaken. AAP workers are fearless and will continue to work for the people of Punjab,” he added.

Kejriwal also took a dig at Prime Minister Modi over his recent visit to Punjab, where he claimed that the state’s law and order situation had deteriorated. “Modi ji went to Punjab and made baseless allegations. The truth is that Punjab is progressing under AAP’s leadership. The people know this and will reject the BJP in 2027,” he said.

The AAP leader reiterated his party’s commitment to development and good governance in Punjab, citing initiatives such as free electricity, quality education, and healthcare. He urged the people to remain united against what he described as the “dictatorial tendencies” of the central government.

This is not the first time that Kejriwal has accused the Modi government of misusing central agencies. He has previously made similar allegations in connection with raids on Delhi government officials and AAP leaders in other states.

The ED raids in Punjab have sparked a political controversy, with the AAP accusing the BJP of trying to destabilize the state government. The ruling party in Punjab has called for a statewide protest against the central government’s actions.

As the political battle intensifies, all eyes are now on the 2027 Punjab assembly elections, where the AAP will seek a second term in office. The party is confident that its performance in the state will help it overcome any challenges posed by the central agencies.
