Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Resigns After LDF Defeat

Thiruvananthapuram: Following the Left Democratic Front's (LDF) defeat in the assembly elections, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tendered his resignation to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Monday. The governor accepted the resignation and requested Vijayan to continue in office until alternative arrangements are made.

Meanwhile, a cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday by the Vijayan-led government has been cancelled in the wake of the election results. The outgoing chief minister is expected to reach the state capital on Tuesday.

Vijayan, who led the state for two consecutive terms over the past 10 years, submitted his resignation after the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a resounding victory, sweeping aside the LDF government. The election results 2026 have brought significant changes across several states.
