Kerala Opposition Accuses Govt of Deceiving Landslide Victims

Kerala Opposition Leader Levels Serious Allegations Against State Government

In a scathing critique delivered to media representatives in Kochi this Sunday, opposition leader V D Satheesan has launched a multi-pronged attack on the ruling government of Kerala. The central allegation revolves around what he describes as a deliberate deception perpetrated against victims of the devastating Wayanad landslides.

"Inauguration Was a Deception" - Satheesan on Rehabilitation Housing

V D Satheesan categorically stated that the state government has cheated the Wayanad landslide victims by inauguring houses built for their rehabilitation without completing the essential construction work. This accusation comes in response to Revenue Minister K Rajan's inspection of these houses following reports of leaks in some of the newly constructed dwellings.

"The accusation leveled against us is that we failed to commence work immediately after Opposition Leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi laid the foundation stone," Satheesan explained. "Meanwhile, the reality is that no one has been able to actually live in the houses that were inaugurated with great fanfare by the chief minister. The construction has not reached a state where human habitation is possible. The entire inauguration ceremony was nothing but a deception designed to fool the public before the election period."

The opposition leader elaborated further on the timing and nature of this alleged deception. "Had the construction work been genuinely complete, the keys would have been handed over to beneficiaries the very next day. Instead, the inauguration was conducted without finishing the work, particularly during the sensitive election period. This event was celebrated with thousands of promotional boards displayed across Kerala, creating a false impression of accomplishment."

Satheesan emphasized that serious irregularities have been alleged in connection with this construction project, and demanded accountability. "Answers will have to be provided for all these actions. Time itself will demand a proper account. The false campaigns conducted during the election period are gradually coming to light, one by one. Many more revelations are yet to surface."

Broader Allegations of Investigative Failures and Political Interference

Beyond the housing controversy, the opposition leader expanded his criticism to include several other high-profile cases. Regarding the Sabarimala gold heist investigation, Satheesan predicted that the case will conclude without reaching any substantive resolution due to failures by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

"The chief minister's office exerted undue pressure on the SIT to prevent the filing of a chargesheet, which ultimately allowed the accused individuals to secure bail," he alleged. "When concerns were raised that all accused persons might be released and potentially destroy evidence, it was falsely claimed that the opposition leader was speaking against the court. As opposition leader, I was merely expressing the legitimate concerns shared by every Malayali citizen."

Satheesan also addressed ongoing investigations involving Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He confirmed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will conduct investigations in cases related to them, while questioning the status of other probes. "What has happened to the case that was supposed to be investigated by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO)? What about the summons sent by the ED to the chief minister's son? These questions remain unanswered."

Allegations Regarding Cooperative Bank Scam and Political Dealings

The opposition leader made further serious allegations concerning the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam investigation. Satheesan claimed that the Enforcement Directorate was tightening its investigative grip during the Parliament elections, but this pressure was deliberately loosened after Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders allegedly assisted a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in securing victory.

This comprehensive critique from the opposition leader paints a picture of systemic failures, alleged political deception, and compromised investigations across multiple fronts in Kerala's governance landscape. The allegations span from immediate humanitarian concerns regarding landslide victims to broader accusations of political interference in judicial processes and financial investigations.
