Kerala Assembly Elections: Political Leaders Voice Confidence in Their Alliances

As voting concluded in Kerala, top political leaders from the three major alliances made bold predictions about the election outcome, each expressing unwavering confidence in their respective parties' performance.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's Optimistic Outlook for LDF

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, after casting his vote at RC Amala Basic UP School in Pinarayi, Kannur, expressed strong confidence that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would secure more seats than in the 2021 elections. He dismissed attempts to create communal polarization as ineffective, stating that the trust various sections of society have placed in LDF cannot be broken by such propaganda.

Responding specifically to allegations that organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami were attempting to engineer religious polarization to consolidate Muslim minorities against LDF, Vijayan asserted that such efforts would fail completely. "We have always placed our trust in people and they have always trusted us," he declared. "In 2021, the people gave us a much larger majority compared to 2016 as recognition of our performance. This time, they will give us even more seats."

The Chief Minister elaborated on his campaign experience, noting that during his visits to 12 districts as part of LDF's election campaign, he observed that all sections of society, including those targeted by such outfits, were standing firmly with LDF.

Vijayan Addresses Controversial Remarks and Cash-for-Vote Allegations

Regarding the cash-for-vote controversy that shook BJP in Palakkad, Vijayan stated that such tactics would not affect Kerala's politically-aware electorate. He also commented on his controversial "Dash mone Revantha" remark against Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, suggesting people could interpret what the word 'Dash' stands for. "He is the only CM who has been arrested in a corruption case," Vijayan added pointedly.

Opposition Leader V D Satheesan Predicts UDF Landslide

Opposition leader V D Satheesan, after casting his vote at Paravur Kesari College with his family, exuded confidence that the United Democratic Front (UDF) would secure over 100 assembly seats. "My confidence stems from ground realities," Satheesan explained. "I travelled the length and breadth of Kerala four times over the past three months. I felt the pulse of the people and there is an undeniable wave in favour of a change."

Satheesan predicted that UDF would win with a big margin, something not seen since the 2001 elections. He had previously stated he would go into political exile if UDF failed to get 100 seats, adding weight to his current prediction.

Satheesan Critiques Surveys and Praises Kerala's Political Consciousness

While early projections had suggested a close race, Satheesan claimed that recent national surveys and ground-level shifts have strengthened UDF's lead. He criticized what he called 'fabricated local surveys' for lacking credibility and promised to address discrepancies once polling ended.

The opposition leader praised Kerala's exceptional political consciousness, noting that even in rural tea shops, citizens discussed both local governance and international affairs. He said UDF's hopes rest on this informed electorate, which carefully weighs the performance of the government and the opposition before making its choice.

BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar Foresees Hung Verdict

BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar presented a different scenario, predicting a hung verdict where neither LDF nor UDF would secure a clear majority. In such a situation, he claimed BJP would emerge as a decisive force. Chandrasekhar made these remarks after casting his vote at Jawahar Nagar LP School in Vattiyoorkavu.

"This is an opportunity for the people to decide the future of the land, its residents and their children," said the NDA candidate in Nemom. "The vision and desire for a developed Kerala, as put forward by BJP-NDA, have reached the people." He added that people would bring about significant change in this election.

Chandrasekhar Outlines BJP's Vision for Kerala

The BJP leader contrasted his party's approach with that of others: "We are asking for an opportunity from the people to not create ruckus in the assembly, to not break computers, to not perform Bharatanatyam on the speaker's table but to resolve their problems. That is why we are contesting."

Chandrasekhar concluded with a broader vision: "Kerala needs to change. What hasn't changed must change and Kerala must grow. I extend my wishes to all our candidates."

As the counting day approaches, these confident predictions from Kerala's top political leaders set the stage for what promises to be a closely watched and potentially transformative election result in the southern state.
