Kerala Principal Suspended Over Social Media Posts

A government higher secondary school principal in Kerala was suspended from service on Friday following allegations that he shared objectionable content on social media targeting Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan and circulated an edited photograph.

Details of the Suspension

The suspended official was identified as Javad S, principal of the Government Model Boys' Higher Secondary School in Attingal, located in Thiruvananthapuram district. Officials said the suspension came three days before his retirement, which was due on May 31.

Nature of the Allegations

The suspension order alleged that Javad posted content on social media that was insulting and mocking in nature and created a misleading impression among the public. The order further stated that such content could mislead the public and create political polarisation among students and teachers.

As a government employee, the use of social media in a way that defames individuals or the government is considered a serious violation of service rules. Based on this, the Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) recommended strict disciplinary action against the principal, the order said.

This incident highlights the strict disciplinary measures taken by the Kerala government against public servants who misuse social media platforms. The suspension serves as a reminder of the responsibilities of government employees in maintaining decorum and neutrality in their online activities.
