Kottayam: In a heartbreaking incident, the bodies of two teenage students who went missing in the Pamba River were recovered on Tuesday, ending a desperate search operation. Details of the Fatal Incident
Both Chris and Joshin were Plus Two students at Mylapra Mount Bethany School. The tragedy unfolded on Monday evening when they went to bathe in the Pamba River at Kalarikkal Kadavu in Aythala, Ranni. They were part of a 10-member group that had traveled to Aythala for a classmate's birthday celebration.
While bathing, the two boys were suddenly swept away by the strong river current. Their companions immediately attempted to rescue them, but the powerful flow pulled Chris and Joshin into the deep waters of the river. Local residents rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion and joined in the rescue efforts, but unfortunately, their attempts proved unsuccessful.
Search and Recovery Operations
The Ranni fire force unit launched a search operation on Monday night, working tirelessly in challenging conditions. The search resumed on Tuesday morning with the fire force scuba team taking charge. After extensive efforts, the bodies of both students were eventually found near the ghat area of the river.
Following the recovery, the bodies were transported for postmortem examination. After the necessary procedures were completed, the remains were handed over to their grieving families for final rites.
Community in Mourning
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and the school. The loss of two young lives during what was supposed to be a joyful birthday celebration has highlighted the dangers of bathing in rivers with strong currents, especially during monsoon season when water levels can be unpredictable.
The families of Chris Sam Biju and Joshin Binu are receiving support from neighbors, school authorities, and local organizations as they cope with this devastating loss. The incident serves as a sobering reminder about water safety precautions, particularly for students and young people engaging in recreational activities near water bodies.
