The vice president of Bharatiya Janata Party's Tamil Nadu state unit, Khushbu Sundar, has expressed her support for TVK chief Vijay for the chief ministerial post. Vijay has encountered a roadblock in government formation in the state after falling short of a majority by 5 MLAs.
Khushbu Sundar's Statement
"As a citizen of Tamilnadu State, when people have chosen their CM, he should lead," Khushbu Sundar said in a post on X. The BJP has won one seat in Tamil Nadu, in alliance with the AIADMK.
Congress Allegations
The Congress party has alleged that the delay in inviting Vijay to form the government is a calculated move by the BJP-led Centre. They described it as an "undemocratic" attempt to undermine the people's mandate.
Governor's Actions
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar called Vijay twice in two days and asked him to submit letters of support from allied MLAs and other partners. This effectively establishes a working majority before an invitation to form the government.
Hung Assembly Scenario
Neither the DMK nor the AIADMK managed to secure a majority, resulting in a hung assembly. Smaller parties such as the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Pattali Makkal Katchi, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, and Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam are now being seen as potential kingmakers in the government formation process.
