KMC scrutinises 17 properties linked to Abhishek Banerjee

KOLKATA: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has intensified its scrutiny of properties linked to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee. A notice was pasted on Monday at 'Shantiniketan', located on Harish Mukherjee Road, for alleged unauthorised construction. This property is among 17 that are under the lens of the KMC, according to an official.

Properties Under Scrutiny

The KMC official confirmed that the 17 properties are either owned or co-owned by Abhishek Banerjee, his company, or his family members. Notices under section 400(1) of the KMC Act, 1980, which addresses deviations from sanctioned building plans, have been displayed at all 17 addresses. The KMC's assessment department initially compiled a list of 42 properties allegedly linked to Banerjee, but this was later narrowed down to 17.

Banerjee's Response

In a strong reaction, Abhishek Banerjee vowed to resist the actions. During a meeting of TMC MLAs at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kalighat on Tuesday, he declared, "Let them do whatever they want. Raze my home, send notice. I won't bow down. Come what may, my fight continues against the BJP."
