Kochi District Collector Issues Strict Deadline for Operation Breakthrough Cleaning Works
In a decisive move to combat waterlogging in Kochi, District Collector G Priyanka has directed officials to complete all ongoing cleaning works under Operation Breakthrough (OBT) within the stipulated timeline. The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting held with various government departments to assess progress and address potential delays.
Special Cleaning Calendar and Monitoring Mechanisms Implemented
A meticulously prepared special cleaning calendar has been rolled out for the desilting of canals and drains across the city. These critical works, which commenced on April 1, are now scheduled for completion by May 15. To ensure adherence to this timeline, independent inspections will be conducted under the leadership of the deputy collector and junior superintendent, providing rigorous oversight of the progress.
The review meeting emphasized the urgency of preventing waterlogging, a recurring issue during monsoon seasons, by accelerating the cleaning operations. Collector Priyanka stressed the importance of timely execution to safeguard public infrastructure and minimize disruptions to daily life in Kochi.
Proactive Measures to Enhance Urban Resilience
Operation Breakthrough represents a key initiative in Kochi's urban management strategy, focusing on improving drainage systems and reducing flood risks. The implementation of a structured cleaning calendar and independent monitoring reflects a proactive approach to governance, aiming to enhance the city's resilience against environmental challenges.
Officials from multiple departments have been mobilized to coordinate efforts, ensuring that all desilting and cleaning activities are carried out efficiently. This coordinated action is expected to significantly mitigate waterlogging incidents, contributing to a safer and more sustainable urban environment for residents.
