Kochi District Takes Comprehensive Measures to Secure Commercial Gas Cylinder Supply

In a proactive move to address the availability of commercial gas cylinders, a special meeting was convened under the leadership of District Collector G Priyanka in Kochi. The gathering brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from fuel companies, distributors, and consumers, to thoroughly assess the current situation and implement effective solutions.

Prioritization and Digital Tracking for Efficient Distribution

District Collector G Priyanka issued clear instructions to prioritize the allocation of commercial gas cylinders for critical institutions. Hospitals, schools, and welfare institutions under the Department of Social Justice have been designated as top recipients to ensure essential services remain uninterrupted.

To streamline and facilitate this distribution process, authorities have launched the Kerala LPG Supply Tracker portal. This digital platform will provide real-time access to fuel companies, distributors, and consumers, enhancing transparency and coordination. A committee led by the district collector will determine the priority order for cylinder allocation through this system.

Enhanced Production and Enforcement Against Irregularities

The Public Distribution Department has taken decisive steps to increase the production of commercial gas cylinders by a specified percentage. Distribution will be initiated based on the demand data collected via the newly established portal, ensuring a responsive and demand-driven supply chain.

To combat malpractices, nine specialized squads have been deployed across the seven taluks within the district. These teams are tasked with acting against irregularities in LPG distribution, with a focus on illegal activities. Authorities have been directed to file cases under the Essential Commodities Act for instances such as storing more than 100kg of cooking gas without a licence or using domestic cylinders for commercial purposes.

Continuous Monitoring and Official Oversight

Monitoring cells related to LPG distribution are now operational at both the district and taluk supply offices. These units will function even on holidays to ensure round-the-clock vigilance and prompt action against any violations.

The meeting, held in the district collector's chamber, saw the participation of high-ranking officials, including City Police Commissioner S Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar, District Supply Officer S R Smitha, and other representatives from relevant departments. This collaborative effort underscores the district's commitment to maintaining a stable and lawful supply of commercial gas cylinders for all stakeholders.
