Kolhapur Municipal Corporation Unanimously Approves Memorial for Late Ajit Pawar
The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) held its inaugural general body meeting on Friday, where a significant resolution was passed unanimously to construct a memorial and statue dedicated to the late Ajit Pawar. The proposed site for this tribute is the Shiroli Octroi Naka, a key entry point to the city. This decision marks a major step in honoring the former deputy chief minister, who was widely recognized for his unwavering support of Kolhapur's development initiatives.
Cross-Party Support for the Memorial Proposal
The resolution was formally introduced by NCP group leader Adil Faras and received immediate and joint backing from BJP group leader Murlidhar Jadhav and Shiv Sena group leader Sharangdhar Deshmukh. This cross-party consensus underscores the broad respect and admiration for Ajit Pawar's contributions to the region. In his remarks, Faras emphasized, "Ajit Pawar always stood for the development of Kolhapur. He was instrumental in advocating for the merger of fringe villages into KMC limits. Erecting a grand memorial for him at the entrance of Kolhapur city, whether at Shiroli Octroi Naka or near the Basket bridge, will serve as a fitting tribute to his lifelong work and visionary leadership."
Timeline and Site Selection Process
Corporators expressed a strong desire to complete the statue before January 28, 2027, viewing this deadline as a meaningful way to commemorate the late politician's legacy. Mayor Ruparani Nikam officially approved the proposal and announced that a comprehensive site inspection will be conducted within the next 15 days. This inspection will involve corporators and municipal officials to ensure the selected location optimally honors Ajit Pawar's memory and aligns with the city's aesthetic and functional needs.
The memorial project is expected to not only celebrate his political achievements but also symbolize the ongoing commitment to Kolhapur's growth, reflecting the collaborative spirit that defined his tenure.
