A 47-year-old Booth Level Officer and teacher, Manirul Islam Tarafdar, passed away on Saturday night in Deganga, North 24 Parganas, Kolkata, following a suspected cardiac arrest. His family has directly linked his death to the immense stress he faced after 94 names from his assigned booth were excluded in the supplementary voter list published on Friday.
Family Blames SIR-Related Stress for Tragic Incident
According to his wife, Rajiya Sultana, Tarafdar was under sustained pressure after the supplementary list was released. "He was constantly worried. People kept asking why their names were dropped despite submitting all necessary documents. He could not eat or sleep properly," she stated. Tarafdar is survived by his wife and two minor children, leaving the family in profound grief.
Local Outcry Over Voter List Exclusions
Local residents reported that after the supplementary list was published, numerous voters approached Tarafdar, questioning the omission of their names. This created a highly stressful environment for the BLO, who was responsible for ensuring accurate voter registration at his booth.

Amulia panchayat pradhan Mohammad Imdadul Haque further alleged that the exclusions were "unjustified" and had a severe impact on Tarafdar's mental and physical health.
