KPCC President Alleges Political Deal Between CPM and BJP Ahead of Assembly Polls

KPCC president Sunny Joseph on Tuesday made serious allegations against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, claiming that his repeated attacks on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are part of a political understanding between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The accusations came during a press conference at the District Congress Committee office in Kannur, where Joseph outlined what he described as a coordinated political strategy between the two parties.

Baseless Criticisms and Political Targeting

Speaking to reporters, the KPCC president asserted that Pinarayi Vijayan has been targeting Rahul Gandhi with what he called "baseless and politically motivated criticisms." Joseph questioned whether the CPM central leadership endorses these attacks and highlighted Vijayan's silence regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policies. "Rahul Gandhi has taken a strong stand against the wrong policies of the Union government, and that is precisely why he is being targeted," Joseph stated emphatically.

The Congress leader pointed to multiple cases registered against Gandhi across the country for speaking against the BJP, including his disqualification from Parliament for opposing central government policies and what Joseph described as "the speaker's partisanship." He emphasized that "Rahul is the secular face of India" and that the attacks represent a broader political strategy.

Contradictions in CPM's Approach

Joseph highlighted what he sees as contradictions in the CPM's political behavior. He noted that while CPM candidates in Tamil Nadu are using Rahul Gandhi's images to attract voters, Chief Minister Vijayan is indirectly helping the BJP in Kerala. "That is why the Lavlin and gold smuggling cases have vanished from the public sphere," Joseph alleged, suggesting that these controversial cases have been deliberately sidelined as part of the political arrangement.

Palakkad Developments and Functioning Style

Responding to recent political developments in Palakkad, the KPCC president claimed there exists a clear CPM-BJP understanding in the district. He further criticized Vijayan's style of functioning, citing the chief minister's controversial remarks against a CPM worker who attempted to ask him a question at a public event. Joseph referenced Vijayan's statement telling the worker to "go home and ask questions," describing it as emblematic of an authoritarian approach.

"People should respond to the chief minister's wrong approach through the ballot," Joseph urged, calling for democratic accountability in the upcoming assembly polls. The KPCC president's allegations come at a crucial political juncture, with assembly elections approaching and political tensions escalating across the state.

The press conference in Kannur served as a platform for the Congress to articulate its concerns about what it perceives as a growing alliance between its traditional rival CPM and the national ruling party BJP. Joseph's statements reflect the intensifying political rhetoric as parties position themselves for the electoral battle ahead.
