Decade-Long Wait Ends as Water Project Gets Green Light

The much-anticipated project to lift water from the Krishna River at Bavan Soundatti village and replenish 39 lakes in Raibag taluk is finally set to begin operations on December 7, according to an official announcement made on Sunday.

District in-charge minister Satish Jarkiholi revealed the commencement date during a press statement, bringing relief to residents who have waited nearly ten years for the initiative to materialize.

Project History and Delays

The minister recalled that although Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had laid the foundation stone for this crucial water project back in 2013, the work faced numerous obstacles that stalled progress for several years.

Jarkiholi shared his personal involvement in reviving the stalled project, stating: "Over the past six months, I personally inspected the site several times and instructed contractors to accelerate the work. It is heartening to see the project finally entering the implementation phase."

Political Support and Local Impact

The minister acknowledged that Chikodi MP Priyanka Jarkiholi had also reviewed the project's progress earlier, indicating cross-level political support for the initiative.

"This project will at last meet the long-pending demand of Raibag residents for lake filling," Jarkiholi emphasized, highlighting the significance of the development for the local community's water security.

The minister also credited Mahaveer Mohite for playing a significant role in advancing the effort, recognizing the contributions of local leaders in pushing the project forward.

The successful implementation of this water lift project promises to transform the water landscape in Raibag taluk, addressing long-standing irrigation and drinking water challenges faced by the region's residents and farmers.
