Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao launched a sharp critique against the ruling Congress government in Telangana on Sunday, accusing it of derailing development in the state's Palamuru district and exacerbating farmer distress leading to migration.
Allegations of Stalled Development and Broken Promises
Addressing a gathering of newly elected sarpanches in Nagar Kurnool, KTR, as he is popularly known, held Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directly responsible for what he termed a reversal of progress. He asserted that the previous BRS government, under the leadership of K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), had completed nearly 90% of the work on the crucial Palamuru-Rangareddy irrigation project. KTR alleged that the current Congress administration has deliberately stalled work on this and other key development initiatives.
In a direct challenge to the Chief Minister, KTR dared Revanth Reddy to guarantee an uninterrupted supply of urea to farmers and to implement the promised pension scheme of Rs 4,000. He claimed that the present government has failed to deliver on its assurances, leaving the agricultural community in a state of suffering.
Water Rights and a Call for Renewed Struggle
The BRS leader expressed grave concerns over the state's water security. He accused the Congress party of compromising Telangana's rightful water allocations, a sensitive issue in the region. KTR revealed that former Chief Minister KCR is now preparing to launch a new struggle specifically aimed at protecting the Palamuru–Rangareddy project from what he perceives as governmental neglect and adversarial policies.
KTR's condemnation extended beyond specific projects to a broader political indictment. "Wherever Congress governs, there's no progress," he stated, exuding confidence that the BRS would make a comeback to power in the state within the next two years. He also criticized newly proposed policies, suggesting they would foster corruption in land dealings.
Political Conspiracy and Undermining Achievements
In a significant political charge, KTR alleged a silent understanding or covert agreement between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana. He condemned the Congress for what he described as a systematic effort to undermine and discredit the developmental achievements of the decade-long BRS rule.
The speech highlighted several key issues:
- The stalling of the Palamuru-Rangareddy irrigation project after 90% completion.
- An ongoing agrarian crisis and farmer distress under the Congress regime.
- Failure to implement key promises like the Rs 4,000 pension.
- Alleged compromises on Telangana's water share.
KTR's accusations set the stage for intensified political confrontation in Telangana, centering on rural development, water resources, and the legacy of the previous government versus the performance of the current one.
