BRS Leader KTR Pressures Telangana Government Over Unmet Election Promises
In a significant political move, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao has issued a direct challenge to the Congress-led Telangana government. Through an open letter addressed to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday, KTR demanded concrete budgetary provisions in the upcoming 2026-27 state budget for schemes that were prominently promised by Congress during the run-up to the 2023 assembly elections.
Mounting Frustration Over Unfulfilled Guarantees
KTR pointed out that nearly half of the Congress government's current tenure has already lapsed, yet approximately 95% of the promises made by the grand old party remain unfulfilled. He emphasized that the patience of Telangana society is wearing thin, creating growing public discontent. The BRS leader specifically highlighted that the ruling party came to power largely on the strength of its six guarantees but has failed to implement them effectively even after presenting two consecutive budgets.
Specific Demands for Vulnerable Sections
The opposition leader called for substantial financial allocations targeting key demographic groups that were central to Congress's election pledges:
- Women through schemes like Maha Laxmi
- Elderly citizens via enhanced pension programs
- Students and youth through educational and employment initiatives
- Farmers under programs such as Rythu Bharosa
KTR further insisted on dedicated budgetary support for Backward Classes (BCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and minorities, aligning with commitments made in various Congress declarations and manifestos.
Clearing Pending Dues and Legal Status
In his comprehensive letter, the BRS working president reminded the chief minister about Congress's specific promise to grant legal status to the six guarantees, urging the government to honor this commitment without further delay. Additionally, KTR demanded that the administration clear all pending dues promised to different sections of society over the past two years, addressing what he described as accumulated financial obligations to the people.
Political Accountability and Future Action
KTR issued a clear warning to the ruling establishment: if adequate funds are not allocated in the forthcoming budget to implement these long-overdue promises, BRS will intensify its pressure on the government on behalf of the people of Telangana. He stated unequivocally that his party would hold the Congress government accountable "at every level" in the interest of public welfare, suggesting heightened political confrontation if budgetary commitments remain inadequate.
This development marks a crucial moment in Telangana's political landscape as opposition forces mobilize around budgetary allocations, turning finance discussions into a test of governance credibility and electoral promise fulfillment.
