Churachandpur: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has termed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise in Manipur as “unacceptable under the prevailing circumstances,” raising serious concerns about fairness, inclusivity, and administrative responsibility.
KIM's Statement on the Revision Exercise
In a press statement released on Thursday, KIM information secretary Janghaolun Haokip expressed disappointment that the government had not first established adequate and practical arrangements to address the situation of approximately 59,000 Kuki-Zo internally displaced persons (IDPs), who are unable to return to their homes to participate in the exercise.
“Proceeding with such a critical electoral and administrative exercise without ensuring the participation of a large and vulnerable section of the population undermines the very principles of democratic representation,” Haokip said.
Exclusion of IDPs Deemed Unacceptable
KIM asserted that the exclusion, whether direct or indirect, of these IDPs from the Special Intensive Revision process renders the exercise incomplete and unacceptable in its present form. The organization emphasized that the government must prioritize the inclusion of all affected communities before continuing with any such administrative measures.
