Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy Unveils Development Blueprint for Mandya, Clashes with CM Siddaramaiah
Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday outlined significant development initiatives for Mandya district while delivering a sharp rebuttal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's recent remarks. Speaking at a public gathering in TS Chatra village, Pandavapura, Kumaraswamy announced concrete plans for industrial growth and addressed contentious political issues head-on.
Major Industrial Development: ARAI Unit Foundation Stone in May
Kumaraswamy revealed that the government plans to lay the foundation stone for an Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) unit in Mandya during May. This announcement marks a pivotal moment for the region's industrial landscape, with the minister emphasizing that the state government must promptly clarify which land parcel will be allocated for this prestigious project.
The establishment of this ARAI facility is expected to serve as a catalyst for comprehensive township development across Mandya, potentially transforming the district into an automotive research hub. Kumaraswamy stressed that this infrastructure project represents a long-term investment in the region's economic future, promising job creation and technological advancement.
Political Counterattack: Dynastic Politics Allegations
Turning to political matters, Kumaraswamy launched a vigorous counterattack against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's comments regarding dynastic politics. The Union Minister alleged that Siddaramaiah had attempted to promote both his sons to public office and had brought a medical professional into politics primarily for financial purposes.
Kumaraswamy questioned the moral authority of his critics, pointing out that multiple political families in Karnataka, including those of the chief minister and deputy chief minister, currently have two or three sitting MLAs representing them. He asserted that his own family, led by H D Deve Gowa, entered politics not for personal gain but in response to public demand to address citizen grievances.
Contrasting Political Trajectories
Referencing Siddaramaiah's political journey, Kumaraswamy highlighted what he described as a stark reversal in the chief minister's stance. While Siddaramaiah had publicly promised in 2013 to retire from politics, he now declares his intention to remain in power until 2028. Kumaraswamy suggested this desire for a "permanent" political role emerged only after experiencing the privileges of office, though he acknowledged that voters would ultimately determine leadership in the next election.
Broader Political Critique
Kumaraswamy accused the Congress party of pursuing narrow political agendas even amid global crises, contrasting this with what he described as the Union government's proactive international engagement. He contended that the state government continues to blame the BJP-led NDA government for its own administrative failures rather than taking responsibility.
IPL Tickets Controversy
The Union Minister also ridiculed recent demands by MLAs for multiple IPL tickets, observing that what was once considered a token of respect has now become a source of public mockery. This comment highlighted what Kumaraswamy portrayed as misplaced priorities among some elected representatives.
The public address in Mandya thus served dual purposes: announcing tangible development plans for the region while engaging in vigorous political debate ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
