Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy Advocates for Sixth Guarantee Scheme for Auto-Rickshaw Drivers in Karnataka
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy made a significant appeal to the Karnataka state government on Saturday, urging the introduction of a "sixth guarantee" specifically tailored for auto-rickshaw drivers. This proposal comes in response to the mounting financial pressures faced by drivers due to escalating fuel prices across the region.
Addressing Financial Hardships and Fuel Tax Concerns
Speaking to reporters near the Munirabad toll gate in Koppal taluk, Kumaraswamy directly called upon Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to seriously consider the drivers' persistent demand for a monthly financial assistance package of Rs 15,000. He emphasized that this support is crucial to alleviate the economic strain on this vital segment of the workforce.
The minister strongly criticized the state government for imposing taxes on fuel consumed by auto drivers, pressing for an immediate rollback of these levies. He argued that such support should be extended in alignment with the existing five guarantee schemes already implemented by the state, which aim to provide social welfare and economic relief to various groups.

Kumaraswamy highlighted that fuel prices are significantly influenced by global geopolitical tensions, particularly those unfolding in the Gulf region. He noted that these international dynamics are largely beyond India's direct control, contributing to the volatility in fuel costs.
"The Union government has proactively ensured steady oil supplies through timely and strategic interventions," Kumaraswamy stated, underscoring the central administration's efforts to stabilize the situation amidst external challenges.

The minister accused the state leadership of politicizing the issue rather than constructively addressing public concerns. He cautioned against making statements that could generate unnecessary confusion among citizens, stressing the importance of clear and actionable governance.
Kumaraswamy reassured the public that the supply of essential commodities remains stable and uninterrupted, aiming to allay any fears regarding availability and accessibility.
Inauguration of New Sainik School in Sindhanur
In a separate development, a newly established Sainik School at the Sri Krishnadevaraya Educational Institution in Sindhanur was inaugurated on Saturday. The ceremony was presided over by Kumaraswamy and Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, with Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh also in attendance.
Several elected representatives and dignitaries were present at the event, marking a significant milestone in the region's educational infrastructure.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumaraswamy elaborated on the Union government's extensive efforts to strengthen India's defence sector. He emphasized that the sanctioning and establishment of this Sainik School reflects a deep commitment to enhancing national security and fostering future leadership.
The minister credited the persistent efforts of former minister Venkatarav Nadagouda for pursuing the demand for the school, acknowledging his role in bringing the project to fruition.
