"When I arrived in Lakhimpur as the BJP's candidate in 2021, numerous voices claimed it was an impossible mission. The residents of Lakhimpur demonstrated otherwise. They placed their faith in me, and I have dedicated every single day of the past five years to honoring that trust through tangible, on-ground development initiatives," Deka asserted, highlighting his administrative record ahead of the polling date.
Among his most acclaimed accomplishments is the establishment of the Lovlina Borgohain Sports Arena in Lakhimpur—a cutting-edge, multi-sports complex named in honor of the celebrated Olympic boxer from Assam. This facility has emerged as a powerful emblem of Deka's developmental vision for the constituency and a significant source of local pride. Enhancements in road infrastructure have also been a visible component of his five-year tenure, though he readily acknowledges that substantial work remains unfinished.
"We have upgraded roads, introduced new projects, and transformed the appearance of this constituency. However, I am fully aware that the task is incomplete, and I am confident that the people of Lakhimpur will grant me the opportunity to finalize what I have initiated," Deka further elaborated.
Congress Veteran Ghana Buragohain Challenges Incumbency Record
His opponent, sixty-year-old Ghana Buragohain, is a familiar figure in Lakhimpur's political landscape. A Congress stalwart, Buragohain previously secured victory from this very seat in 2006, defeating AGP (Progressive) candidate Utpal Dutta by 4,449 votes, with 40,411 votes against Dutta's 35,962. "Development cannot be measured solely by the construction of a single sports arena. The citizens of Lakhimpur confront annual flood devastations, the town's drainage system is in complete disarray, its roads are plagued by severe congestion, and our youth are departing in search of employment opportunities. Five years have elapsed, yet these fundamental issues persist unresolved. The populace deserves superior governance," Buragohain contended, presenting a pointed critique of Deka's incumbency.

Of the eleven elections conducted since 1972, the AGP has emerged victorious five times, the Congress on four occasions, the CPI once, and the BJP once.
