Latur Farmer's Bull Falls Ill, Opposition Slams Govt

The Maharashtra government's lack of concern for farmers has once again come to light. A farmer couple in Latur district was seen pulling a plow themselves, a video of which went viral on social media. While the government should have felt ashamed that farmers are reduced to such circumstances, it instead gave the couple a bull as compensation.

Compensation Bull Falls Ill

However, under pressure from opposition parties and the media, the bull provided to the Latur farmer has now fallen ill. The farmer is now forced to bear the cost of treatment for the ailing animal. This incident has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders.

Vijay Wadettiwar, a prominent opposition leader, tweeted, “The government’s apathy towards farmers is evident once again. A farmer couple in Latur district was seen pulling a plow themselves. The government should be ashamed that farmers have to endure such hardships, but instead, it gave them a bull. After giving the bull, it’s fine…”

Another opposition leader, Rohit Pawar, also criticized the government, saying, “Due to pressure from the opposition and media, the bull given as compensation to a farmer in Latur district has turned out to be sick. Now the farmer has to bear the cost of its treatment. The condition of loan waivers is no different. Loan waivers are announced but are laden with conditions, making them ineffective.”

Government's Response Awaited

The state government has yet to respond to these allegations. The incident has reignited the debate over the government’s handling of farmer welfare schemes and compensation mechanisms. Critics argue that such ad-hoc measures do little to address the deep-rooted issues faced by the agricultural community.
